What are tonsils and adenoids?

Tonsils and adenoids are immune tissues that play a role in defending the oral and nasal cavities. These structures are relatively most significant between the ages of 3-6 and gradually decrease in size after that. Although their primary function is to protect our health, they can sometimes become problematic. We can categorize these problems into two main groups: growths causing obstruction and frequent/chronic bacterial infections.
