What is Lip Filler?
Lip filler is a cosmetic procedure designed for individuals with small or inward-turned lips, as well as those developing fine lines around the mouth due to aging. The goal is to enhance lip shape and volume, resulting in more moisturized and youthful-looking lips.
The most common fillers used for lip augmentation are soft hyaluronic acid formulations. These, like other hyaluronic acid fillers, offer the option of reversibility if desired.
Given the sensitivity of the lips, local anesthetic creams are typically applied before injections. Fillers that include local anesthetics also help minimize pain. Despite these precautions, for the utmost comfort and painlessness, I prefer employing regional nerve blocks in my procedures.
Applying lip filler at the correct depth without reaching the orbicularis-oris muscle level, prevents both bruising and complications associated with injecting it into blood vessels. Due to an increased risk of cold sores post-procedure, using topical creams for cold sores as a preventive measure is advisable.
“In experienced hands, employing the right techniques with just a small amount of lip filler can result in very natural and pleasing outcomes .”
